Hi everyone, lately I have been doing a lot of club hopping checking out different worlds to help overcome my, what i like to call, builder's block. As I bounced from club to club I couldn't help but notice there are quite a few club worlds that are dying/dead due to it's corresponding leader(s) failing to return to Trove or passing their title, as leader, over to someone else. It's no secret that MOST clubs cannot survive when it's leader(s) abandon their club since officers do not have the ability to promote other's to officer/leader statues the club is always doomed. Not only is this a problem for people of said club world, but it's also a problem for other's who may want to give their club that maybe taken up by a forgotten club not to mention i'd assume it also takes up memory on the server.
What's my idea?
My idea, in theory, is simple. In the event a leader(s) were to abandon his/her club world AND all, leaders-members, of the club walk away due to an overall lack of club progression; it would be nice for all clubs (except alpha club worlds) to be able to have some sort of timer that would allow a club to go up for auction in the event there are no more members present to enjoy said club.
How would it work?
Let's say the auction timer was set to 90 days, what this would mean is if anyone logs in and still is a part of a particular club then the timer would reset preventing the club from going up for auction; however, if all members fail to login, for up to 90 days, the timer would countdown until it reached 0 thus placing the club up for auction. During the auction phase the game would calculate how many placed blocks there are, number of portals/benches present, and how many terraformers have been placed within a world, all this would be factored into generating a price.
Auctioning:
While the club is up for auction all potential buyers would be give a 1st person view and flying ability to see what the world looks like and what is present within it. The auction would serve as.... well like an internet auction house would! Where players could either place a bid or flatout buy the world for whatever asking price has been generated (note it could also potentially be set just to flatout buy or strictly bid on a club.) Once the transaction has been completed the winner would be presented with a popup screen to either rename the world or keep the name as is.
Potential Pros:
1) New Life
This system would give everyone in the community a chance to expand on a club world that may posses a lot of building potential without having the need to make terraformers.
2) Pre-Made
It's no secret that trove's tutorial is not 100% user friendly to new players nor does it cover on where to make things like portals, advanced work benches, and club cards. This system would give newer players an opportunity to have some stuff set up for themselves to make the grind slightly easier and overall a little less stressful.
3) Auction Hunting
On the opposite end of the spectrum there's the end game players who might find themselves bored with what the game currently has to offer, this system would provide them with an opportunity to buy up club worlds for one reason, items that may or may not be present in an officer/club chest (who knows you might get REALLY lucky and score a Ganda!) What this would give is a new form of risk and excitement for experienced players seeking something different.
4) Flux Sink
Trove's current flux sinks are either too steep or underwhelming causing players to either have too much or too little flux on them which in turn causes things like inflation and overall fluctuation on priced items. Since the system would be designed to calculate all things present in each club world to determine price, it would also (inadvertently) determine what crowd of players each auction would cater to. (For example let's say a club like Voxel Busters went up for sale, with everything present within in it the world would probably have a pricetag somewhere in the million, or potentially billion, flux range hence attracting wealthier more experienced players. While on the other hand let's say a club with only 1 island and a handful of benches and portals went up for auction, this would be on the cheaper side and would cater more towards beginners that are in need to get themselves set up and going on their trovian experience.)
5) Naming Rights
When coming into the possession of a club world you also inherit the club name, which you may have wanted for your club for a long time, but couldn't because it was taken by an abandoned club.
Potential Cons:
1) Lack Of Interest
There is always a good chance that the general public would not be interested in taking part of this system and would become another failed idea implemented into the game.
2) Whaled-Vultures
Wealthy players could end up buying out all the cheaper worlds for whatever reason (most likely naming rights) and delete them, cheating beginners out of a chance to get themselves going.
3) A Devastating Loss
Though rare it's also possible for players who stopped playing for over said 90 days to return only to learn that they have been stripped of their club world and everything with it. (Though some sort of tic box could be added giving the player the option to keep the club. The only issue is most players would tic the box since they'd be too scared to lose their stuff in the event they left trove which in turn would make the system pointless. This part is kind a gray area.)
To sum up, I personally believe that there are a lot of club worlds that remain forgotten and it would be nice to have some way to make them available to others. I think it's a reasonable way reincorporate old stuff with new players causing a new way for players to socialize with one (via auction) and overall strengthen one's experience on Trove. There are quite a few issue that would need to be worked out given that this system is a potential nightmare as it is grace. I do not expect for this idea to come into fruition, but i thought i'd at least put the idea out there.
Side Notes:
-Voxel Busters was only used for the sake example purposes is NOT for sale as far as i'm aware
-There are probably more issues or potential ideas which I may not have covered, but keep in mind there's a lot to cover and I mostly just wanted to get an idea out into circulation
-I apologize for any punctual, grammatical, and/or spelling errors/typos in advanced
-All constructive criticism is welcome
Have a nice day everyone! ~Gamma_craft
